Hearing problem……?

I have always had trouble with my hearing, but I’m not exactly sure what the problem is…
I can hear the all the sounds, but they get jumbled up sometimes. So I can hear a voice, but I have difficulty understanding the words. I always watch movies with english subtitles so I can understand the dialogue. I find song lyrics very difficult to work out.
I had a hearing test when I was a child, and because I could hear all the tones at the right volume, they decided my hearing was normal. I’m beginning to think the problem is not with my ears, but with brain….
I can’t afford to go to an audiologist. I just want to know whats going on. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I have been threatened with an eviction notice due to hearing problems and excessive sound. Should the landlord involved, instead of threats and seizure of audio equipment, (they, having already made judgment) not do all in it’s power to bring it to an end amicably, for all concerned.

How to deal with anxiety?

I experimented once with some "psychedelic" drugs and did not have a good trip. Since then I have had moderate to severe anxiety problems. I would love any new tips on how to deal with this problem/hear any similar experiences. Also, I would like to know how you feel about drinking alcohol with this problem. I haven’t used anything… even caffeine since the trip but would love to enjoy some time with friends at bars or clubs. Comments?
Jsuk I got anxiety from experimenting… I havent used since of course. Like I said above, not even caffeine.

For those with hearing problems-?

What sounds can’t you hear?

My grandfather is hearing impaired and we find it interesting the kind of noises he can and can’t hear. He finds female voices very difficult, which is sad for me

I am 18 and have noticed for a long time now that I have trouble hearing people speak, especially when in a noisy place or with a number of people speaking at the same time. I have also noticed that i can hear very high pitched noises very easily. It is the low sounds that i jumble up. I make responses to questions and people look at me wierd! then when i get them to repeat what they said, i get soo embarrassed.

What could be causing this?
I heard once of my aunt having to get her tonsils removed because they were imparing her hearing. Could it be the same with me?

I just find it strange because i can still hear high pitched things – like polyphonic ringtones when the phone owner cant hear them from the other room where we are sitting together.
yes, i am going to get tested. definitelly.

intermittent hearing problems? what does it mean?

I’m asking on behalf of my boyfriend…
who hasn’t seen a doctor yet (despite my pleas to do so)… but i’m hoping that if i can find something to point him in the right direction of what it MIGHT be, it may encourage him to see someone about it

He’s been experiencing hearing problems over the past few months … fairly infrequently (once every 2 weeks or so) for about 1-3 hours at a time.

essentially, during that time he claims that he can’t listen to music properly cause his hearing goes screwy … (ie: low bass-y tones, sound wrong … but higher tones sound fine)

apparently his house mate says his voice also sounds ‘funny’ during these periods … so it might have something to do with his sinuses (?)

(he works in audio, so he’s quite good at noticing these kind of aural changes, i don’t imagine he’s just making it up … in fact he’s been freaking out over it, cause such a thing effects his work)

these periods of hearing problems seem to come and go for no reason.

(i know there’s not much information there … but if anyone could help, or even suggest some websites that would be good for this sort of thing that would be excellent!)

thank you kindly
(thank you mike for the kind words)

i’m not sure if it’s ‘intermittent deafness’ though… he still has hearing during these periods, just the audio ‘quality’ (if that’s understandable) is not right

… i’ll admit that he is being a little stubborn, and won’t listen to me… but i’m hoping that if i can give him even a shortlist of what it might be, it’ll be enough of an encouragement to see someone about it.
